Some Cats

I take a lot of photos of stray cats I come across in my environs. Recently I have begun penning them, and this series will most definitely continue.

The Dance of Life

poem by Ruth Gilmore Ingulsrud
'Rootloose' (inspired by the artwork)

Deep down in the middle

of forest and trees

There lived an old oak

who did just as she pleased

She danced in the moonlight

She danced in the sun

When strong winds were blowing

and when there were none

The other trees warned her that dancing was wrong

And trees that went waltzing

just didn’t belong

But deep in her heartwood

she knew she was right

To dance with her branches

from morning till night

One day a young dancer

pranced into the wood

She bowed to the tree

as a dance partner should

Her new friend could leap

and cavort and sashay

So she picked up her roots

and went waltzing away

Atlas Buzzed

While scientists remain puzzled as to the cause of the dramatic decline in honeybee populations in North America and elsewhere, some are speculating the cause may very much be human related; however, not technological, but philosophical. It appears that “Randism”, a trend that has exploded on the American political landscape may similarly have caught on among our bee brethren. It seems that the reason for the decline of hive populations is that many bees are now practicing “the virtue of selfishness”, keeping the nectar they collect for themselves and not returning to the hives they emerged from. These bees consider the notion that they should return for the benefit of the whole colony “evil altruism” and look down upon the “Hive-ists” who would act for a goal larger than themselves. They argue that “there is no such thing as a species” and that it all comes down to individual bees and their pursuit of their own happiness. When it is pointed out to them that this could result in the extinction of honey bees and have cataclysmic results on worldwide crops, they scoff and say, “and this is my problem how?”
Meanwhile, more religious-minded bees are concerned about how to carry on in the aftermath of what they regard as “The Great Rapture” that has decimated their populations. “Left Bee-hive”, the bee adaptation of the “Left Behind” series of books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, paints a bleak picture of life on earth after the Chosen Bees have been taken up to their Maker.
So, will it be Rand that the bees turn to, or the Good Book? “Why should I care?”, a distraught bee who agreed to be interviewed for this article lamented. “It’s so hopeless that I just may go off somewhere and sting someone!”

'The Alphabet Tower' is OUT!

My book for children, 'The Alphabet Tower' has been published!  It's available on amazon in the U.S., Japan and the UK.

Here are some reviews:

"An adorable and unpredictable presentation of the alphabet, which includes charming illustrations and clever verse, making it a real page-turner! I've read it multiple times and have consistently discovered something new and fun in the details of the drawings. "

~"I absolutely adored the Alphabet Tower and reading it to my youngest granddaughter. I just know my older grandchildren will love it. Mr. Boerger's illustrations are endearing and so full of animation- they'll tickle the imagination to wonder what animal or person would represent the next letter and would they cause the tower fall. I recommend this for all ages , children and adults alike."

Kids LOVE 'The Alphabet Tower' and adults LOVE reading it to them and showing them the fun pictures! It can be purchased by visiting this site:

Old Master Studies

These are all pencil renderings taken from paintings of master painters, among them DaVinci, Botticelli, Velasquez and Vermeer.

Such good practice to learn from the all time greats!

Beatlings!

Beatles' Animal Songs (after 'Revolver')

Revolver vs. Pepper: Which album is better?

A Day in the Life in Beatlesville

I love the Beatles! Not only has their music entertained and uplifted me, but the unique persona of the band and its legacy has inspired me as a visual artist. In these three illustrations, dozens of songs are referenced; how many can you spot? Counting repeated references (the Yellow Submarine appears in all three) I count more than 40. Have fun exploring!

Trick Art

What do you see in these drawings? There could be 'more than meets the eyes'....

'Lockdown Series'

We are in a new era that seemed to jump out at us out of nowhere. Millions of people are in lockdown and everyone is dealing with the anxiety of not knowing what the near future will bring.

In response, many artists and performers are coming up with ways to connect to people during this challenging time. My  idea is to ask people that I connect with through social media to toss out random, zany ideas that I then incorporate as elements of drawings. Thus, each of the seven shown below (and I continue to keep this series going for a while) is a collaborative effort, combining at least five, and in one case six, ideas each of which was contributed individually. None of the ideas themselves came from me; I decided how to use them and in some cases, interpret them.

I think they have a kind of 'Stone Soup' (I have always loved that children's story) energy of having been created through group inspiration.

They're fun and crazy! Enjoy!
