We May Never ( a Lament)

We may wander through the desert for a hundred hungry years
we may part with close companions as we roam
we may blister as the beams of summer's sun arrive like spears
we may never, we may never get back home

We may turn away from leaders who insist they know the way
we may recognize the madness in their tomes
and in our chosen solitude may hear the desert say
we may never, we may never get back home
We may find some lucky comfort in the mesmerizing spell
of a lover, and no longer be alone
though the love might last forever or become a hollow shell
we may never, we may never get back home
Toward mirage and oasis we may stumble, we may fall
there a hall of wisdom, there a pleasure dome
listen closely, and you'll hear the wise man's and the reveler's call
we may never, we may never get back home
To the wanderers and searchers, fellow nomads of the land
I embrace you and I greet you with shalom
though we'll always hold the vision of a place beyond the sand
we may never, we may never get back home
